A Prince William County nurse who says she only plays Lottery games once or twice a year has her mother to thank for a $1.8 million cash windfall.
The Bowie woman was at a gas station with her mom at the Chesapeake Market at 12300 Annapolis Road in Glen Dale when she was talked into purchasing a random ticket for a random game.
She chose a Multi-Match ticket, and it paid off in a big way, though they didn't realize it at first.
The rookie Lottery player handed off the ticket to her mother before the two went their separate ways.
It wasn't until she scanned the ticket to see if her daughter won anything and she was met with a message telling her to "Go to Lottery," which piqued her interest.
The winner's mother then pulled up the winning numbers for the drawing on Oct. 28 - 06-12-14-30-37-42 - and realized her daughter was a millionaire.
“I looked at it and said, ‘No way,'” the mom recalled, and when she delivered the news to her daughter, the lucky winner was also in disbelief.
“I didn’t think it was real. I wasn’t sure it was real until the next day,” she said.
The win now comes with an the option of an annual annuity paid in 25 installments or an estimated $1.075 million cash option.
It marks the eighth Multi-Match jackpot winner of 2024. The others were sold at:
- Klein’s ShopRite in Belcamp ($2.1 million on March 25);
- Paul Mini Mart in Baltimore ($660,000 on April 29);
- Wawa in Adelphi ($580,000 on May 30);
- Royal Farms in Glen Burnie ($500,000 on June 3);
- Four Corners Exxon in Mt. Airy ($540,000 on June 20);
- Sheetz in Cumberland ($560,000 on July 15);
- Sunoco in Eldersburg ($540,000 on Aug. 1).
